So. Shang stays for dinner. It’s great.
So he and Mulan try being in a relationship, only it just…doesn’t quite work. Like, they care about each other a lot, and they have the whole life-for-a-life thing and they are incredibly attached to each other, but it’s just not a romantic thing. But because they are super-bros they decide to get married anyway, like, a beautiful queerplatonic union because they can’t imagine living their lives with anyone else and if they get married it saves them from the awkwardness and difficulty of trying to find partners while remaining as close as they are. So, beautiful queerplatonic life partners Mulan and Shang.
And maybe sometimes Shang comes home to Mulan in mens clothing, and just slips into saying “Ping” and just rolls with it because, hey, as long as she (or he, or they) is happy then he’s happy too. And Mulan/Ping goes out to the town presenting as both genders, and trains local kids in martial arts as Ping and does any stereotypically feminine stuff as Mulan. Shang does his General stuff and occasionally Mulan gets letters from the Imperial Court asking for advice on important matters which they answer and send off with a smile because fuck yeah, consulted by the Emperor of China.
They’re proud of who they are what they’ve done for China, so Mulan wears the Imperial seal, and Ping carries Shan Yu’s sword, and they and Shang just live a happy queer life and visit Mulan’s family sometimes and Grandma knows everything about the Mulan/Ping thing and their queerplatonic relationship and is just badass supportive Grandma forever because you know she would be.
No one can take genderqueer Mulan from me.
if anyone ever tells you to man up, just knock them unconscious and as they lie motionless of the ground, lean over them and whisper
I am not the next Mandela but it was just cute to read “or she is segregated and searched every time she travels through an international airport” because oh hey hi that’s me
Yeah all movies have mistakes but I really fucking hate Frozen and since people don’t want to fucking listen when people bring up lack of POC representation, lack of body type diversity in Disney princesses, and heteronotmative romance plots I’m going to laugh about Elsa’s hair going right through her fucking arm ‘till kingdom come
